Content standards
These are the standards we hold our own writing to.
Accuracy before completeness
A shorter article that is correct is better than a longer one padded with material we are unsure of. Where we do not know something, we say so.
Plain language
Technical terms are used where they are the precise word and explained on first use. We do not use jargon to sound authoritative, and we do not simplify to the point of being wrong.
Original writing
Everything here is written for this site. We do not republish material from elsewhere, spin existing articles, or publish text generated without human authorship and review.
Practical usefulness
Each article should leave the reader able to do something or decide something. Where a piece is purely background, it says so up front.
Safety
Where a procedure carries genuine risk, we describe the risk plainly rather than burying it. We do not recommend methods we would not use ourselves.
